Carousel Repairs

There is one amusement ride that is always associated with fond memories, and that is the carousel. Typically, amusement park rides deter anyone with motion sickness or a fear of heights, but carousels keep the motion to a minimum and there are no heights to be afraid of. Combined with the beautiful horses and assortment of creatures available for riding, the carousel is an appealing ride for any child or family. Indeed, the nostalgic charm and colorful lights offer a unique sense of joy and excitement that transcends age. Adults, for instance, can take a trip down memory lane, reminding themselves of the simpler times and giving themselves a moment to relive those times with their own parents. For children, it gives them the chance to bring their imagination into real life, as they ride a chariot led by strong horses, fearsome dragons, or beautiful unicorns surrounded by friends and family. There was once a time where carousels were magic because of their automation, but now they are magical not just because of their historical achievements, but because they serve as a powerful reminder that joy can still be found in the simple pleasures.

Despite the thrill that carousels provide, the real magic lies in the memories it creates. Carousels offer a safe place for children to experience their first amusement park ride, giving them a glimpse of the fun to be has in amusement parks, all while going at a slow enough pace to snap some quick pictures that will last a lifetime. It is a fun time for the children, but for the parents it represents a milestone that will be appreciated for years to come, even when they ride their first rollercoaster or real horse. It is a timeless automation that is more magical than meets the eye.

Although carousels create magic, they of course are not magic. To preserve the magic of carousels, they of course would need maintenance. As with every autonomous object, the many parts are subject to wear and tear, impeding the ability of the carousel to function properly and potentially even becoming safety hazards. Proper maintenance ensures that carousels remains a safe and reliable source of family quality time for children and parents by ensuring their functionality and most importantly, their charm. The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) of the State of Rhode Island is seeking quotes from vendors to repair the Goddard Park Carousel as per attached plans and specs. This includes, but is not limited to, the removal and installation of new cupola, replacement of rotted roof purlins, and repair of delaminated glulam arch ribs. As the carousel is an essential part of the park and one of the main attractions, repairing of this carousel is of utmost importance to maintain the quality and enjoyment of the park and those who visit.
